What I gathered from the Thönen who belong to our Family                                  German Version

Here we see the Gasterntal, lying between Kandersteg and the Lötschental, where about 1912 Walter Thönen build the Waldhaus.
The Lötschenpass in old times was as important as the Gemmi-Pass for the many traders and other travellers.
Aside from the Waldhaus there is also a alpine dairy and a barn, who also belonged to the Thönen Family.
Unfortunately I do not know if they are build in the same time as the Waldhaus.
The Waldhaus was selled 1936  because Walter Thönen and his wife Gertrud Wäfler both died very young.
Their son Hans Walter, born 1926, was only 3 years old when his 34 year old mother died and 9 years old when also his 33 year old father died.
The today's owner was so kind to give me an old picture postcard ......... for which I want to thank him again very much. On the card we can see 3 people standing and sitting. If this is the Thönen-familie ......
We can still stay overnight in the Waldhaus. In the night there is only candlelight, so the atmosphere is very special ....

The first Thönen-business I found in 1993 in Frutigen and visited again last time.
It belongs to Walter Thönen, born 1951, sun  of the above mentioned Hans Walter Thönen, born 1926.

Café Restaurant Bad belongs to Rosemarie Thönen, a daughter of the above mentioned Walter Thönen, and her husband.
In older times on the other side of the street, where there is a parkingplace now, was Hotel Bad which was build by one of the forfathers of the Thönen of Frutigen.
